Goa airport gets ISO 9001 certification
NT News Service

Panaji Feb 19, 2005 : The Indian Register of Shipping, accredited by the Dutch Council of Accreditation, has certified the Airports Authority of Indias Goa airport ISO 9001:2000-compliant.
The formal announcement in this regard was made today by Mr K Ramalingam, chairman, AAI, in the presence of Mr S R R Rao, regional executive director, western region at a function held at a hotel today. Mr K Madhok, managing director of the certifying agency was also present.
The quality policy outlined for Goa Airport, on the basis of which the certificate has been accorded, lays emphasis on providing safe and comfortable airport service with a focus on continual improvement in passenger facilitation and quality management system. Apart from this, the policy lays emphasis on improving customer satisfaction and complying with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
The Goa Airport is ranked 9th in terms of its share of passenger traffic in India. Both domestic and international traffic are rising at a rapid pace over the years. The airport handles around 700 international charter flights every year while 92 per cent of all such flights coming to India land at Goa earning it the name of charter gateway.
In order to cope with the increasing traffic, the floor area of the existing terminal building is being increased by the airport authorities. New facilities like lifts and escalators are being added while the capacity of the air-conditioning plant is being augmented.
The long term plans include additional aircraft parking bays, a new international terminal, integrated cargo complex, increase in car park area and other ancillary facilities like aviation fueling station. The AAI is expecting around 20 acres of land from the Indian Navy and state government to go ahead with the expansion plan.
Mr Anuj Aggarwal, Airport Director, Goa, in his welcome speech observed that the quality management system adopted by the Goa Airport as part of the ISO certification are expected to give a clear direction in linking the quality of services to passenger expectation.

The last time we landed at Dabolim my wife had to go to the toilets before we passed through immigration. She came out green Shocked and said they were the pits, absolutely disgusting. I bravely held on until we passed immigration, went to the gents and they were first class. A chap even washed and dried my hands (didn't realise that cash would be involved). Still, you can't blame them for trying to get some cash out of the tourists. Going back home it was hard work, what with being stopped every 10 paces by officials who wouldn't look out of place in Midnight Express. Quite loking forward to it actually.

Would you rather spend a couple of hours at Diabolim Airport waiting for your holiday to begin or would you prefer to be stuck in the Indian Embassy in the UK waiting for your Visa
Well then...Shhhhh!

Smile Hi All,
I have a love / hate relationship with Dabolim.i love all the hussle and bussle when you arrive, the staff thinking their being helpfull by taking all the baggage off the carousel before you can grab your bags, all those helpfull hands offering to help you with your bags for a 1 coin, all of this means that you have arrived in that wonderful place they call Goa Very Happy
I hate all the red tape and security checks on the way out, all those rather stern looking officials at each check, all of these means i'm leaving Crying or Very sad
give me Dabolim rather than what i'm experiencing right know (a cold grey day) any day

I hope at some point the Indian authorities have a look at how we deal with passengers at an airport. The wait to get through security at the airport was beyond a joke Rage .If i decide not to go back to Goa it will be for that reason,it was so bad two older people fainted with standing in the heat for so long. Two and a half hours in queue that doesnt move just because of no organisation is not good at all,and that was to get out of the country!they are a nuclear power for goodness sake(i really dont want to think of that)

Just got back on Fri night and what a nightmare....electric failed at Dabolim (no back up!!) so security was being done by hand...queued for over 2 hours only then to be ushered through with minimal security or we would have held the plane up....no chance for a drink / sandwich or even the loo. Duty free was closed as no power plus no fans - not the best
