SWORD-wielding robbers tied a petrol station worker to a chair and snatched more than BD200. Four masked men ambushed 44-year-old Rajaram Naik as he worked alone at the Budaiya Service Station, near the Toyota showroom, at around 3.20am. Three of the men were carrying swords, Mr Naik told the GDN yesterday. He said he was in one of the two cabins at the Budaiya Road station, when the four Bahraini men attacked. "The other glass cabin was locked and I was inside the second cabin," he said. "Suddenly four men barged inside and demanded the keys to the main office. "They tied me to a chair with rope and one man stood guard over me." "The other three men went to the main office and smashed the glass door with the swords, got inside and took BD100 from the drawer. "The man standing over me searched my pocket and took BD111, the night's collection." Mr Naik said he could not resist because the man who stood over him was brandishing a sword. They escaped by car, leaving him still tied to the chair. But he said the rope was only loosely tied and he wriggled free and called the police. Mr Naik is from Goa, India and has been in Bahrain for the last 12 years. |
