Depleted A.V.C go down fighting
Curtocares United win NYC Rolling Trophy

Kuwait: Siemens Mobile sponsored Curtorcares United overcame a depleted A.V.C side 4-3 in the tie-breaker to win the coveted XVth Navelim Youth Centre (NYC) Rolling Trophy on Friday.

The final watched by a large number of spectators at Kuwaits famous Sour Grounds had a shaky start for Curtorcares United with stand-in goalkeeper Laurenco Cardozo looking rickety in goal. But the team, encouraged from the sidelines by club President Salvador Dias himself, looked confident as the match progressed and Laurenco making a couple of good saves.

A.V.C Overseas Association, despite its recent run of form struggled in the prime action. The absence of some of their key players lost out to injuries and suspension was evident. They had equal chances in the first half though, with strikers Kevin Vaz and Ronnie finding themselves in possession of the ball numerous times near the opponents area but missing out to find a finish.

Curtorcares Uniteds young midfielder Caridade D Souza in combination with captain Domnic Fernandes played his heart out throughout the match. However, Curtorcares strikers Ivo D Costa and Melvy failed to capitalize on chances that came their way. AVC too, were solid in defence to give anything away - defenders Vincy Pereira and Alex Sequeira kept their shadows on the Curtorcares strikers and made first time clearances.

The second half was equally poised with both teams shooting at goal to clinch the winner. AVCs Francis Rodrigues and Player of the Tournament Roland Joseph played magnificently, both players showing tremendous stamina and ball control. Curtorcares defence marshalled by stopper back Teotonio displayed grit and a determination to win.

The tie-breaker was resorted to decide the winner as the normal period and extra-time ended goalless. Curtorcares scored through Caridade, Laurenco, Ignatius Martins and Melvy Fernandes while Ronald, Liston and Nicholas scored for AVC. Vincy Pereira and Alvaros kicks were saved by Curtorcares goalkeeper.

Though we lost, I am absolutely pleased with the performance of our players. They all played well despite absence of some of our regulars. Xavier Furtado, Vice President of AVC commented later after the match, As everyone witnessed, there were less shots at our goal... Erratic shooting in the tie-break eluded us embracing the prestigious NYC TrophyWe apologize disappointing our fans and promise to break the jinx of winning finals in the near future.

It should be noted, this is AVCs second consecutive 11 a-side final held under Kuwait Indian Football Federation (K.I.F.F) this season. They lost to Kerala Challengers 2-0 in the Rising Stars final of the last tournament. AVC have also won two of the four seven a-side tournaments held so far.

For Curtorcares, this is a record straight tie-breaker victory in the four games they played in the tournament.
