DUBAI Necessary rectification measures will be taken by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to help a group of aggrieved grade 12 students, who had, on March 1, complained of loss of crucial examination time during the Physics examination, following alleged negligence of an invigilator at the Indian High School, Dubai.
Pavensh Kumar, Controller of Examination, CBSE New Delhi, told Khaleej Times that the board is investigating the matter and if any discrepancy is found in the performance of the affected group of students vis-a-vis other students from within the same examination centre, they may look at moderation of marks at the time of declaration of the results.
But, the students need not worry, Kumar said, assuring the students of remedial measures by the board in the interest of the affected students.
Kumar pointed out that a detailed report on the matter was received, both from the complainant school which is Our Own English High School (OOEHS), Dubai, and Indian High School (IHS), Dubai, the accused school. Apparently, the matter is under scrutiny and some decision will be arrived at soon after the performances of the students are evaluated.
OOEHS Principal Madhav Rao, however, stated that he will pursue the matter with the board until a decision is soon taken in the interest of the affected students.
I expect the board to complete the enquiry procedures soon after the last examination is conducted on March 30, Rao said.
He ruled out any possibility of a re-examination, expressing, proportionate weightage of marks by the CBSE will possibly be a good solution for the aggrieved students unable to complete their physics paper due to delay in receiving the question paper.
A group of about 20 grade 12 students of OOEHS, Dubai appearing at the IHS examination centre had complained of delay in handing over the answer and question paper for the Physics subject and collecting the paper early by the invigilator resulting in loss of about 20 to 25 minutes of examination time. The invigilator handed over the answer sheets late resulting in late delivery of the question paper as well, students complained.
Students and their parents took up the matter with the OOEHS principal and the CBSE authorities in New Delhi for necessary remedial measures be taken to help the affected candidates.
