Among the top stars who would be vying for the top honours in both individual and team events would be men's world number one and two, R M Shankara of Indian Airlines and Sandeep Deorukhkar of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board.
Also in the fray are men's world number 4 Dilesh Khedekar of Indian Audit and two-time world and nine-time national winner Maria Irudayam of IA.
Current women's world champion S Apoorva and five-time national champion Nirmala Parimi, both of LIC, are strong favourites for the individual title along with former world champions Rashmi Kumari of Bihar and G Revathi of Banks Sports Board, it was announced at a press conference last night.
Current world number two and national champion Sangeeta Chandorkar, two-time winner Anupama Kedar of BSB and former Maharashtra state champion Ayesha Mohd. Are among the other leading lights in the fray.

This is the fifth occasion that the Maharashtra Carrom Association is hosting the nationals which has attracted over 550 players from more than 45 states, union terriroties and institutional teams.
Host association's president Vijay Kamble said that the event has been budgeted to cost Rs 25 lakh and there are efforts to rope in some sponsors. PTI
