Miss. Rachel De Silva elegantly dressed 18 years old, a student from Mumbai, crowned 5th MAY QUEEN 2005 at a glittering full-house function at the Diplomatic Club, despite the programme being postponed by a day at the last minute. The 05-05-05 May Queen Ball became a huge hit in the State of Qatar.
Veteran Bollywood Actor Asrani and Sameer Dharmadhikari from the film Raincoat, Satta, crowned the May Queen at the 05-05-05 May Queen Ball on 6th May 2005 organised by the Goan Welfare Association. The mega celebration of 5th Anniversary was patronized by a large number of guests, including diplomats, VIP�s, sponsors, well-wishers and other dignateries.
The May Queen Pageant was very glitzy and conducted in a highly professional style. Each contestant was a winner in their own way with their alluring smile, slinky looks and proud walk making it very difficult for the esteemed judges in attendance Archie D�Mello - Office Manager of CEO, Qatar Airways, Sakalla Debras � 1991 Miss. India Second Runner-Up and Aparna Dharmadhikari, First Female Director of Photography on Television.
May Queen was awarded with Gold Neckless by Prakkat Jewellery, Airline ticket Doha-Amsterdam-Doha by Qatar Tours, westar ladies watch, Overnight stay for two at the Four Seasons Hotel and Dinner for two at Sheraton Doha. The First Runner-Up was Nethalie Drevet of France who was awarded with Airline ticket to Doha-India-Doha by Air India, Westar ladies watch, Two nights stay for two and dinner for two at the Ritz Carlton. The Second Runner-up was Nikita Figueirado from Goa who was awarded with Airline ticket Doha-Dubai-Doha by Al Shamel Travel & Tourism, Westar ladies watch, Lunch for two at the Ritz Carlton and Brunch for two at the Sheraton Doha.
The event was officially opened after a grand march-past by GWA President Simon D�Silva and Managing Committee members along with their spouses before being joined by the guests. Simon D�Silva then took the center stage pulled a string to open a huge 05-05-05 centrepiece, filled with confetti, hanging above the dance floor. While the confettis were coming down on the guests, the show was officially declared open.
The President and Managing Committee cut the 5th Anniversary cake. Simon D�Silva extended a warm welcome and expressed happiness at the huge turnout despite the show was postponed in less than 24 hrs. This proves that it has not dampen the spirit of people who are here tonight to have fun. He thanked all the sponsors who have helped immensely to make it a great grand success and regretted for the inconvenience caused due to the unavoidable circumtances.
Sameer Dharmadhikari, Aparna Dharmadhikari, Glen Barretto � Director of �Jane Hoga Kya� to be released shorly, have received a thunderous and cheerful welcome from the crowd.
Asrani was introduced right on the stage with the famous dialogue �Hum Anghrezom Ke Zamane Ke Jailor Hum� by Updesh Swar. Asrani then took the mike in his hand and performed one man kit, depicting his role from the super hit movie SHOLAY and inter-spread with funny anecdotes and experiences from Bollywood. His performance was well received by the guests who later gave him a thunderous applause. He had a word of appreciation to the President and managing committee members of the Goan Welfare Association who efficiently managed to re-stage the event in less than 24 hrs due to the postponement for the reasons entirely beyond their control. He was very impressed to witness such a well organized show.
Sameer Dharmadhikar joined in on the dancing floor along with Aparna and mingled freely with the guests who were thrilled with his �NO-AIRS� attitude. A special hindi dance was performed by �Freak Zone� group.
Karishma Tana of �Khyon Khi Saas Bbhi Bahu Thi� could not attend the function due to the postponement as she had other prior work related commitments on the next day in France. GWA presented momentos to all the Stars and Karishma�s momento was presented to her mother Jasmina Tana who was in Doha for the show. Asrani presented GWA�s momentos to Archie D�Mello, Manager of CEO Office in appreciation of support by Qatar Airways, and Basil Coutinho, a long time resident for his social work in Qatar.
India�s leading and Goa�s No. 1 Band �ARCHIES� satiated the music buds of all the guests by playing fantastic music catering exclusively to taste and choice of all and sundry. They ensured that everybody had a tumultuous time clamoring for more and more. Desert Thunder DJ Alex displayed his best musical extravaganza. Updesh Swar who was the compere was specially flown in from Goa to set the mood and the tone for a fun packed evening with his inimitable style and performance.
