Infrastructure development in Benaulim constituency: Cruz
NT News Service

Margao May 20: In his development programme for Benaulim
constituency, the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) candidate, Mr
Francisco Monte Cruz promised to undertake infrastructure development
in the entire constituency, along with a housing and social security
scheme. In his manifesto, Mr Cruz stated that the UGDP would see that
power supply was made available to all homes in the constituency by
undertaking remedial measures such as providing transformers, sub-
stations and street light fixtures. This, according to Mr Monte Cruz,
would be along with the best hot-mixed roads in every ward.

The manifesto also promised an underground railway crossing at
Majorda within the earliest possible time. "The Khareband and Mungul
bridges were completed at the behest of the UGDP," the UGDP senior
vice-president, Mr Radharao Gracias said. He added that a long needed
project the underground railway crossing would be completed on
priority basis after Mr Cruz was elected.

Mr Cruz said that the adverse demand and supply condition in the oil
and gas sector had led to massive escalation in prices of cooking
fuels. Time is not far away when these fuels will be totally extinct.
Keeping this mind, the UGDP candidate announced that he would set up
gobar gas plants in Benaulim constituency.

"We intend to construct a decent fish market for the constituency
along with a rick-shaw stand which will help in making the existing
marketplace more organised and hygienic," he said pointing out to the
promise to build a new market in Benaulim.

Mr Cruz announced that the party would press in for low cost funds
with a repayment period of 20 years or more with low interest
rates. "These will be run by local panchayats who will be given the
primary responsibility for providing homes to the homeless," he added.

To benefit the industry, the UGDP plans to set up gala industrial
sheds, dairy and poultry farming and encourage carpentry and local
artisans. Under the first scheme, the party would start gala type
industrial sheds which will have the potential to generate about one
lakh jobs, besides creating opportunities for self-employment. "This
scheme is proposed at the panchayat level and shall be offered to
interested persons from the area without any premium for 20 years,"
Mr Cruz informed.

Speaking of agriculture, the manifesto states that the party would
give farms access to modern technology thereby increasing the yield
per hectare. Each village is to be provided high-tech machinery,
which in turn shall provide the same to its farmers at nominal rates.
The manifesto also talks about promotion of cash crops like spices,
medicinal and aromatic herbs along with encouraging farmers to
produce traditional crops and fruits.

Not leaving sports aside, Mr Cruz promised to start a scheme for
providing a coach to each educational institution by engaging a
person of the Sports Authority of Goa. The party manifesto also
speaks of legalising dhirio by bringing about an amendment to the
Protection of Cruelty to Animals Act.
