Kuwait: Mangalore Airport - NRI�s Submit Memorandum

Delegation of �United Associations of Karnataka-Kuwait� met H.E. Swashpawan Singh, Ambassador of India, Mr. R. Singh, Air India Manager for Kuwait & Cyprus and Mr. R.K. Dewat, Country Manager, Indian Airlines Kuwait, on 29th May to submit Memorandums and requested them to take speedy action on their demands.

All associations of Karnataka, under the umbrella �United Associations of Karnataka, Kuwait�, which joined hands together recently to fight for a common cause of expediting the Mangalore Airport project & upgrading it to International standard and to pressurize the concerned authorities to introduce direct flights from Kuwait to Bangalore.

In the first meeting in the morning, the delegation met Mr. R.K. Dewat, Country Manager of Indian Airlines Kuwait. He has promised to take all appropriate action to do whatever possible to fulfill the demands of Direct flights to Bangalore/Mangalore. He said that although this idea is already in his mind, due to the shortage of flights at the moment it is not possible to implement this plan. But he was optimistic in saying that, the progress Indian airlines has made over the years in connecting more and more cities of India, it will not be too long that our desires are met.

In the second meeting the delegation met Mr. R. Singh, Manager of Air India, Kuwait & Cyprus. He was delighted to know such a strong presence of population from Karnataka in the State of Kuwait. He said that Air India always strives to cater to the needs of NRI�s. He has already understood the importance of Bangalore and Mangalore as hub of economic growth and said connecting flights to these cities with bare minimum transit time is already in the pipeline. Air India is in the verge of acquiring new flights & leased flights and promised to take up the matter with concerned people to speed up the genuine demands of the people of Karnataka.

Later in the evening a 15 member delegation met H.E. Swashpawan Singh, Ambassador of India to Kuwait. He was delighted to receive the delegation and lauded their efforts in joining together for a common cause. He said �Unity and commitment will definitely yield results�. The delegation explained to him the present situation/progress on the Mangalore Airport expansion work and also the need for upgrading it to international standard. The Ambassador agreed to the fact that there is a great opportunity for economic growth once the airport expansion is completed. He promised the delegation to take up the matter with concerned authorities immediately. He also said that Government of India is giving more priority to the aviation sector now and with the introduction of Open Skies policy, it will not be too long for other carriers, other than national carriers, also to introduce flights to cities like Bangalore and Mangalore very soon.

Memorandums have been addressed to the Minister of Civil Aviation, Government of India and copies have been made to Prime Minister, Minister for NRI Affairs, Airport Authority of India, all MP�s of Karnataka and all Union Ministers from Karnataka. These copies are being sent through H.E. the Ambassador. Copies of memorandum will also be sent to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, All MLA�s of D.K. and Udupi, Canara Chamber of Commerce, leading politicians and leading organizations of D.K. and Udupi.

 

The delegation comprised of Presidents of all associations and some leading members.
