AVC-Kuwait sponsored by Dawat Restaurants Kuwait won the finals of
the United Goans Football tournament held on 27th May 2005 in
Kuwait defeating Navelim Youth Center in the tiebreaker.

With this win AVC-Kuwait have been crowned Kuwait-India Football
Federation (KIFF) Season's Champions for the year 2004-2005.

The match played at 41 degrees centigrade took the toll out of
players from both the teams. It was a real thrill to watch both
teams displaying top discipline and quality soccer skills. Navelim
dominated the proceedings in the 1st ten minutes giving no room to
AVC captain Agnelo Miranda to orchestrate the moves, he was strongly
bottled by medio Duarte from Navelim.

AVC came back in their own line of attack with Roland, Liston and
Francis (Jr) taking control of the half line and after that it was
AVC all over the Navelim territory but they could not convert the
moves into goals as Kevin and Molvit muffed up easy chances. However
AVC were lucky not to concede a goal in the 1st half as Nicholas in
the goal missed judged the flight of the ball and the ever agile
defender Elvis made a goaline save.

The second half saw AVC introducing their trump card Jimmy Gouevia
who mesmerized the Navelim defence with his swift runs down the
flank, luck did not smile on AVC from taking the lead. Britto of
Navelim had a busy day under the bar and made spectacular saves of
Francis (Jr), Ronny and Roland in the second half and Molvit's long
ranger hit the cross bar and went out. The AVC defence marshaled by
Godfrey, Elvis, Vincy and Alex gave nothing away till the last minute
as the two center forwards of Navelim, Cruz & Ignatius were tightly
marked and maneuvered. It was very obvious that Navelim missed the
services of their star Gasper Crasto missing out due to injury and it
was same with AVC with Francis (Sr) on leave.

Since no goal was scored during the normal and extra time of play,
the match had to be decided on tiebreaker. Young Nicholas of AVC came
out with three superlative saves during the tie-breaker, it was a
real ecstasy to watch him sending the Navelim players the wrong way
which is always the other way round when the players send the
goalkeeper at the wrong end, thereby giving AVC a very convincing
victory.

The season has been quite extraordinary for AVC-Kuwait as they have
created history by winning the outstation tournament held in Bahrain
and thereby becoming the only Goan team from Kuwait to have achieved
this feat in a short time, when many predicted that they will survive
only 2 seasons.

In a press note released The Management of AVC would like to thank
all the players the Captain of AVC Mr. Agnelo Miranda, Coach Mr.
Alvaro Dias and Team Manager Mr. Donald Colaco for this
accomplishment and thereby reaching AVC Kuwait at the pinnacle of
glory and recognition.

As said by many the AVC team is a very well balanced side with
seniors guiding the juniors and the juniors respecting their seniors.
On and off the field the discipline of the team is extraordinary.
Well-done boys keep the unity going.
