Panaji June 10: The St Cruz MLA, Ms Victoria Fernandes has rejected the offer of the post of Deputy Speaker of the assembly made to her by the state Congress leadership.
Sources revealed that Ms Fernandes told the Congress leaders that she was a lone woman member of the House and as such entitled to a ministerial berth. It would have been a tool for her to have an access to the development in her constituency.
She also told the leaders that for her, ministerial berth was not a money-making machinery.
For Ms Fernandes, according to the sources, it was a move to turn her a passive spectator in the House.
Ms Fernandes also told the GPCC leaders that she could be more effective and vocal as an MLA of the House, rather than being a Deputy Speaker and remain silent.
She has also questioned the sincerity of the local Congress leaders towards the 33 per cent reservation for women, in the political field, more so when the party president was a woman.
Meanwhile, the supporters of the St Cruz MLA, Ms Victoria Fernandes have mounted up lobbying for her inclusion into the Rane cabinet stating that she was the lone female member elected amongst the 40-member legislative assembly.
At least three organisations have written to the Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi appealing her to secure berth for Ms Victoria in the Rane cabinet. The organisations include Voice of Women in Goa and United Women�s Association (Ekvot Bailancho Manch).
