Shobha Tarcar is a familiar face at any social function; she is gifted with a knack to make your mouth water and the taste buds go berserk. This lady, a BA (History) graduate, was an LIC Agent for a good 15 years and bagged the Chairmans Gold Medal in 1986, at a State level competition. She is gifted with a melodious voice and has graced many a programmes both on and off stage, including TV and Radio.
But it was her passion for cooking that prompted her to think seriously about catering as a profession, and since the last nine years this passion has proved to be a successful venture. She happens to be the first lady entrepreneur in the catering world of Panjim. This soft-spoken lady had to brave it out in this male dominated profession and carve a niche for herself. She still has to fight and retain this share, where cut-throat competition, lack of trained staff, transportation, etc take a toll on her and yet it motivates her to move on.
This woman is a very down-to-earth person, who believes in hardwork, has an optimistic outlook and a total trust in God. In fact, its her child-like belief in God supplemented by her support system of friends and family members that make her a success. Besides her parents and children, her dedicated staff plays n pivotal role in her progress. But her esteemed clients and their constant feedback gives her the impetus to draw out the best in her. In this profession, she believes, every client deserves her individual attention. Each client is unique, each client is important, and so the flavour, quality of her goodies is consistent and same, irrespective of the purse and position of her clients. And she vows to retain the tradition.
Shobha has no intention of expansion or diversification. In fact profit is not the motive, she says smiling. My children too are involved in their own professions and I dont intend imposing my venture on them. Her son, a Hotel Management graduate is employed at Marriots London, while her daughter is pursuing Physio-therapy. ``So its my baby Sai Samarth Caterers, she says. ``Ill take care of it as long as I can and leave the rest to God.
She concludes by saying, Success does not come overnight, one has to work hard, be focussed and finally be true to oneself and rest assured, everything falls in line.
