Rane govt has taken political prostitution to a new low
Pratap Singh Rane is leading the greediest bunch of ministers and MLA's in Goa's political history. And while a degree of greed is understandable after a four year hiatus, for congress MLA's, the hunger of the allies- the NCP and the lone MGP minister Sudhin Dhavlikar, has turned the Rane government into a huge feeding machine.
Where are the people of Goa in all this?
From the time this government came to power, all discussion, moves and political and government activity has centered around cabinet berths and portfolios. The NCP managed to get two berths for its two MLAs at gun-point, while Sudhin Dhavlikar dictated who the Congress Chief minister would be.
The people of Goa had hoped that all would be settled and governance would take a front seat again. But that was not to be. The sulk pots sulked, the rabble rousers shouted, no one was happy and every one felt cheated.
But what about us? The tax payers and citizens of Goa. When will we stop being cheated? When will the people of Calangute, Benaulim, Margao and so many other villages stop having four-hour power cuts? When will the cities and villages get 24X7 water supply? When will students get their fresh stock of cyber age computers that are not being supplied because the new minister was to re tender the supply of computers?
When will those guilty of damaging the drainage system of Panaji be brought to book?
When will large scale irregularities in the conversion of land by the Town and Country Planning department be probed? When will women of Goa, get a system that quickly prosecutes and punishes men who molest, rape and harass them? When will police constables not have to write to the Director General of Police saying that they want to end their lives because of harassment by their seniors? When, When, When?
What is the agenda of the Rane government ministers today? Digambar Kamat wants Urban Development, Joacquim Alemao wants Sports, Mickky Pachecho wants Sports and any plum post, Willy wants forests and five corporations, other non-ministers want two corporations each, pressure groups are being formed, and letters are being written.
The greed quotient knows no bounds. In Tuesdays CLP meeting, one of the main items discussed was the postings of police officers. Each MLA gave a list of their favorite police officers to be posted in their areas. We all know that in a political system, appointments to the police force are made along political lines. But it always subtle and there is an element of
autonomy given to the DGP or the Home department.
But the Rane government has taken political prostitution to a new level. It has dragged the activity from behind closed doors onto the open streets.

The "We are for sale" tag is on display for all to see.
In a pathetic display of political interference, the MLAs actually gave their list of transfers and it is abundantly clear who will be posted in various police stations across the state. The CLP knows it but the top brass of the Goa police don't. At least not yet.
Chief Minister Rane continues to make lop sided announcements, devoid of ground realities. He wants a parallel national highway, but his priorities should be repairing bad roads in villages and cities, he wants a new police team that will play the role of a paramilitary force and even help out the Maharashtra and Karnataka police. But terrorism is certainly not Goa's most
pressing problem. Rane perhaps would do well to come down from his ivory tower and look at the number of murder and rape cases that lie unsolved.
The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Wilfred D' Souza sits on a mountain of greed and his hunger knows no bounds. He wants berths for all, the best portfolios, corporations for family and friends and what does he give in return? The constant threat of pulling down the government, the very tree he sits on.

Sudhin Dhavlikar is in the government for the fun of it. The moment he realised that his clout was getting diminished because of the reduction of the BJP's strength in the assembly, he air dashed to Delhi to keep the AICC top brass in good humour. At the same time, he is making plans to field his people in at least seven constituencies in the next elections.
It is Goa's greatest misfortune that after getting rid of a Manohar Parrikar-led government, it has to suffer a bunch of self seeking greedy wolves who are feeding on the money we pay as citizens.
