PLEASE HELP…
A humble request for help from Mrs. Jessy D'Mello:

I wish to place before you the emotional trauma and critical problem that me a my family are going through at this moment.

I am Mrs. Jessy D'Mello, wife of Mr. Noel D'Mello. We have two teenage sons - Johann(14) and Shawn(11) born and brought up here in Dubai. We led a simple but happy life together here with our children in Gulf far away from our home-town Mangalore. When suddenly an unexpected event occurred that completely changed our life. It was 1st May 2005 when all of a sudden my dear husband 'Noel D'Mello' complained of severe headache that followed by numbess on one side and could barely stand straight. Fear gripped me at that moment and as I gathered up all my courage, I immediately rushed him to the nearest Dubai Hospital. Although the Doctors saw the Blood pressure rise rapidly, the first aid took a delay of five precious hours. Noel's condition deteriorated at an alarming level during this time causing brain haemorrhage.

As it was the case of brain haemorrhage Dubai hospital asked us to refer his case to Rashid Hospital. The surgeon at Rashid Hospital was not on duty at that moment. The crucial operation was scheduled for the following day at 12 pm. It was a major operation that took 7 1/2 hours. Sadly he did not recover as expected. He was placed in the ICU and was in a critical condition for 26 days. When he could breath without the help of the machine, he was transferred to ward No. 2. The Doctors statement at this stage shattered my hopes and courage. The Doctor said "Noel's recovery will be very slow and Rashind Hospital cannot provide treatment for this case. You better take him to your home town as soon as possible". A simple, content family life was hit by an uncertain future and desolation. It is 63 days since he went into a coma and there has not been any significant improvement.

The operation fees and miscellaneous charges so far have amounted to Dh. 17,000/- and the balance charges will be billed on discharge of the patient. I am unemployed at the moment and have two teenage sons to support. Noel is the only child to his parents. He lost his father at a tender age of four and was brought up by his widowed mother. His mother's passing away in the year 2000 had quite an impact on Noel. She was 56. He had spent a lot of money on his mother's treatment when she was critically ill.

Noel is the sole breadwinner for the family, he handled all the responsibilities during our 15 years of married life. I feel extremely sad to see him each day, just lying there helplessly at the age of just 42 years. In this situation I am faced with a heavy financial crunch - daily living expenses, children's educational expenses added on to the major medical and travel expenses.

As I am not left with any other option but to travel home with Noel, I am concerned with the cost involved towards our travel to Mangalore. The patient in his stretcher, medical equipment, accompanying doctor make up 7 tickets, plus 3 tickets for my two sons and myself. I appeal to my Konkan brothers and sisters for their support to enable me and my family members to travel home and provide appropriate treatment for my dear husband. My two sons have lost their smile on their young face, and my desire is to bring hope and comfort for our growing children. I am extremely grateful for the prayers and moral support extended to me by our Mangalorean folks. I shall remain indebted to my dear people from my home town for any help extended to shoulder this huge responsibility.
