Sanjit back in the saddle Re-appointed CCP commissioner

BY HERALD REPORTER

PANJIM, JULY 30 — The  State  government,  in an order issued  today, has re-appointed  Sanjit Rodrigues  as  Commissioner  of the    Corporation  of the  City  of Panaji (CCP).
For  Rodrigues,  this  will be   his  second  stint  as  Commissioner  of the  City Corporation  after  he was  relieved  from the post    last  year to  handle   the  Entertainment  Society  of  Goa  constituted    for the    International  Film Festival  India, Goa 2004.
Mr  Rodrigues  has  been directed  to   take  charge  of the    CCP posting   immediately   and  has  also been   directed to  continue  as  CEO  of the  Entertainment  Society  of  Goa (ESG)   until further orders.
Rodrigues will   take over from    the present  CCP Commissioner N  Suryanarayanana   who   has been directed  to  report to   the Personnel  Department for  further orders.
Today’s  order  brings  to  an  end   the long  feud   between the  CCP Mayor  Ashok Naik and  the   outgoing  Commissioner  N Suryanarayanan    over a host of issues   particularly    the   recent flooding, pending city works,
For  Rodrigues,   the CCP  Commissioner’s  seat  will  definitely  be  a  fiery  one with   the  Corporation  likely   to  turn the tables  on   Rodrigues  for the IFFI in a jiffy  works  as  it  is claimed  that   Rodrigues was   a part  of  the  IFFI  plans,  and planning    not only before   but  also   after his   transfer  to the ESG.
Even the   Panjim   Municipal   garden   which  is  in a  pathetic    condition  today  was  handed over  to the  GSIDC   during Rodrigues’  previous  stint as  Commissioner  of the CCP.
The    re-appointed   Commissioner is likely  to face the  wrath   of  the  CCP  members   and  citizens  of Panjim  over  the  ongoing  garbage  problems.
Here  again,  Rodrigues      it  is  alleged had taken a  very  lenient   stand  over  the  dumping  of   Mapusa garbage    at Curca  for  nearly two  years.
Rodrigues  who is  likely  to  take    charge as  the CCP  Commissioner  on Monday  has  before  him the  mammoth  task    of  finding a  solution  to the  serious  problems which has  raised  a  stench  not only  in Curca  but  the  capital  city as well.
The  Commissioner  will  also  have  to  find  solutions  to the    problems   faced at  the    first  and  second  phase  of  the new  market  complex,   the Mala  Lake project and   the   flooding,  the  monsoon  debacle   at  the  Campal boulevard  and  all that meets  the eye  within   his  jurisdiction.
During this  time,  elections   to the CCP   are  also  in the offing and  expected  to  take  place  before  October  1.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of the Corporation of City of Panaji, Ashok Naik has decided to resume work on Monday and expressed delight over the government’s order reappointing Sanjit Rodrigues as the Commissioner of the CCP.
It may be recalled that the Mayor had proceeded on long leave last week in Disgust with the outgoing commissioner, N Suryananan, determined not to return until the latter was transferred.
Naik speaking to Herald today evening said that the come-back of Rodrigues would help the Corporation work out solutions to various problems. He said that the first and major problem that would be looked into on Monday would be to find a solution on the garbage problem. “The city and its citizens have been suffering and we will find a solution shortly,” said the mayor.
The mayor also added that Rodrigues will get all the support from the Corporation and its members.

Wrong PrioritiesErvell E Menezes

While Panjim was wilting under the “jaundice epidemic” we’ve had our 10-odd-member delegation undertaking a study tour Down Under (in more ways than one), New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand. What they were studying is anybody’s guess, but the team included Panjim Corporation Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues (who was in the wrong place at the right time) and a host of BJP ministers.

Babu Kavlekar was the only Congressman in the delegation and Goa State Industrial Development Corporation director Tulio D’Souza, who is also the son-in-law of former Chief Minister and one-man National Congress Party member Dr Wilfred D’Souza. This is how Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar keeps the Opposition happy by throwing a few crumbs . Dr Willy got his government automobile (without red lights, it seems) and may be the son-in-law is also nursing political ambitions which means that the NCP could become a two-member party if they don’t merge with the BJP. After all, who gave an entry to the BJP in Goa if not Dr Willy and Francisco Sardinha?

So what does the Panjim Corporation Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues do on his return from his holiday/study tour? After all, he’s the right-hand man of Mr Parrikar? So, institute a witch-hunt. They start inspecting the cleanliness (or the lack of it) conditions in the hotels. How the workers live in filthy conditions and all that. But these guidelines were already there, only like so many things in this Best State in India, they were not implemented.
