Philips To Be Official Partner Of The 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany

 (Business Wire India)
Philips will be the Official Partner of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany. This was announced jointly by Philips and Federation Internationale de Football (FIFA), the world governing body of soccer. This would mark Philips’ 6th sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup. As part of the agreement, Philips will have exclusive sponsorship rights to the Consumer Electronics (CE) category of the FIFA World Cup for the first time.

Mr. D. Shivakumar, Executive Director & Senior Vice-President – Consumer Electronics, Philips India Limited said, “The 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany is a great platform to demonstrate our new brand positioning, build valuable relationships and really showcase how Philips is providing innovative products that connect with the consumer. There is a clear link between the brand values of the FIFA World Cup and Philips, and we hope to bring these values to life by enabling football enthusiasts all over the world, especially India, to view the FIFA World Cup in a new light through Philips products and services.”

In 2002, a cumulative number of 28.8 billion people watched the FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan on TV, and that figure is expected to rise for 2006. In India, unlike cricket, soccer viewership is still limited to metros. Only Kerala and West Bengal are the exceptions - soccer scores across the states. International soccer events like the FIFA world cup, European Championships amongst others are the most watched and viewership during this period goes upto 300 percent with an average increase of 50 percent.

Adding further, Mr. Shivakumar said, “To add to the excitement to the FIFA World Cup, we would soon roll out interesting promotional offerings during various festivals across cities that are passionate about soccer like Kerala, Kolkatta, Goa and Mumbai where free tickets to the FIFA World Cup are offered as grand prizes. We would kick-start our FIFA campaign with the biggest festival in Kerala ‘ONAM’. Special theme based activities across exclusive Philips Arena showrooms would take place as part of the campaign. ”

Philips has always been the trendsetter with a full suite of advanced technologies, sleek designs and simple, easy-to-use home entertainment products. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup all Media Centers will be equipped with Philips Flat TVs, a total of 5,500, to power the behind-the-scenes action of the FIFA World Cup. In addition to playing a key role in the 2006 FIFA World Cup viewing experience, Philips products such as Ambilight Flat TV, Home Entertainment Systems and Hard Disc/DVD Recorder would allow consumers to live and capture every moment of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in comfort and style.

Philips’ Ambilight sets create a perceived better image and widen the viewing area to ensure fans can see extended angles of each exciting play. Ambilight technology is unique as it analyzes incoming television signals and produces background lighting that matches the images displayed on the screen. For example, when watching the FIFA World Cup on an Ambilight Flat TV, the background light of the television will emit a green light to match the crisp, green blades of grass. As the image on the television changes from the field to other views such as the cheering crowd, the background light changes from green to the most dominant color in that scene. The Ambilight technology actively changes and matches each color represented on the screen.

Philips Ambilight Flat TVs not only creates an enhanced viewing atmosphere, but also add to the emotional involvement of the Home Entertainment experience. The Ambient lighting effect creates a deeper and more immersive viewing environment drawing the consumer deeper into the emotional aura of the program. Fans can personalize the experience through four active modes that will enhance the emotional experience (Action, Dynamic, Relaxed and Ambilight 2).

These four active modes process images on the screen at a different rate and create different lighting environments to emotionalize the atmosphere. Loyal fans can even set the external coloring of the Ambilight to reflect their home team’s color scheme.

While thousands of passionate soccer fans will be able to enjoy the game in person, millions of fans will be watching the game on Philips from home.
