Jebel Ali, Oct1: A Festival Celebration with a theme St. Francis of Assisi Church in Jebel Ali celebrated their annual Parish Feast in style on 30th September 2005. The Theme for the celebration was "St. Francis the Man of the Eucharist". A solemn high Mass was concelebrated by 6 priests with the main celebrant Fr. Zacarias M. Parra of St. Mary's Church. Fr. Anthony Lopez from St. Joseph's Church, Abu Dhabi in his homily elaborated on the Theme and said that the Franciscan order is the biggest in the world. Though St. Francis hailed from a rich merchant family he humbled himself and compared to Jesus in humility. In the Canticles of Assisi St. Francis addressed the nature and creatures as brothers and sisters. Church was full with congregation of multi language community. Fr. Francois Al Koussaifi inaugurated the Social function by blessing and cutting of the cake and also blessed the Food prepared by the various communities of the Parish. The communities that catered the food include Malayalam, Tamil, Konkani, Sri Lankan, Arabic, Western and Phillipino according to their traditional food. Konkan community served Pork Bapat and Pork Sorpotel which was a big success not only amongst the Konkani community but also with others. People of different nationalities met together and expressed their faith and love for St. Francis Assisi, as one big family. The parishioners gathered in large numbers and it was like a fellowship meal prepared and shared by different communities. Stage programme had some spiritual singing by Philippino community, dances by Tamil, Malayalam & Sri Lankan community, Magic show and Lucky dip. Show was compared by Lloyd Rego and music by DJ Elroy Rasquinha. Various games stalls were put up communities.
