THE SHOWMEN CROWNED CHAMPIONS

 
 
True to their status, "The Showmen" made up of popular Goan personalities in the entertainment field in Kuwait, showed superior skills of another kind when they lifted the glittering trophy in the 3rd edition of the Don Bosco Rink Football Tournament held at the Indian English Academy School (IEAS) , Salmiya – Kuwait and organised by the Don Bosco Past Pupil Association, when they outsmarted title contenders and past champions "Big Joe’s" 3-0 in the final held on 17/10/05 at 8:30pm.
 




 Earlier in the semi finals of this popular tournament held on the same day, The Showmen shattered the dreams of the young Carmel School Lads ‘Footy Fantastic’ 3-0 while Big Joe’s scraped through after edging X-Pats in the tie breaker when robust  Roshan broke the deadlock in the eighth penalty sending his team-mates and supporters into delirious celebrations.

In the grand final watched by a huge crowd, the Showmen who remained unbeaten during the entire tournament started by attacking their younger opponents right from the start and Jose Rod the popular Goan singer got his name on the score sheet in the very fourth minute of the match  when he slammed home from a pass by Larry.  
 


























 




Roy, Alex and Rajesh of Big Joe’s tried their best to draw level but were thwarted by some excellent defending by Ian  and veteran Julio Cardoso for the Showmen.  Man of the Match, Larry than made it 2-0 for the Showmen with a brilliant piece of individual skill to slot past Collin in the goal, while Ian sealed the game with a third after receiving an excellent pass from Agnello.  
 
The Chief Guest of the evening Monsignor Arnaldo Catalan, Secretary to the Vatican gave away the Rolling Trophy to the winners which was proudly collected by the ever popular Lloyd D’Souza who captained the winners, and the Runners up trophy was collected by Collin for Big Joe’s.

Fr. Tony D’Souza the Rector and Director of IEAS distributed the trophies for the third and fourth placed teams, X-Pact and Footy Fantastic.  Awards were also given to Brulio Rodrigues of X-Pact (Highest scorer in the tournament), Lynden Lewis of Footy Fantastic (Best Defender in the tournament), Hell Boys (Best disciplined team) and Larry Aguair of Showmen (Man of the Match).
 
Also present at the awards presentation were special guests Rev. Fr. Lionel Braganza the charismatic principal of IEAS, Rev. Fr. Derrick Misquita the Administrator of IEAS,  Mr. Marian Fernandes and Mrs. Cynthia Crasto.  The organizers, Don Bosco Past Pupils Association deserve a special mention, especially Christopher Fernandes who compered the event and Phillip Duarte the tournament coordinator.
