Get Great Software, Save the Oceans By Jason, 2004-05-21 09:39:18 Section: News, Topic: RandomStuff
I got an e-mail today from Oceana supporter Joe Bastedo with some news that I thought was worth sharing with the community. Joe was looking for a way he could help Oceana protect the world's oceans, and he wanted to do something out of the ordinary. So he did -- he set up an online store where you can buy Linux "distributions" [http://www.angelfire.com/biz7/dgenterprises] (the various flavors of that great open-source operating system), and pledged to give $1 from every sale to Oceana. Only $1? That may not sound like much to you, but consider his prices -- Joe's selling Fedora Core Linux, the distribution I use at home, for $6 shipped! One dollar out of six is no small sacrifice -- and in the work that we're doing, every dollar helps. Joe didn't stop there, either -- he's challenged other Oceana grassroots activists (that's you, folks) to come up with their own good ideas for new ways to pitch in. Any takers? So, if you've ever been curious about what all the buzz around Linux is about, and wanted to try it out, here's an inexpensive way to do so and help save the oceans at the same time. Thanks, Joe! http://community.oceana.org/story/2004/5/14/1139/57538 _______________________________________________ gull mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.alphanet.ch/mailman/listinfo/gull
