I am a troll, so ignore this if you don't like, can't
use or are just having a bad day.
Psionic Empowerment:
This psionic ability allows a user to create an object
and imbue it with a psionic ability.
The idea behind this is taken, loosly, from the
"Darkover" novels of Marrion Zimmer-Bradley. More the
point, the crystal or "Matrix" technology that is
developed during the 'Ages of Chaos' period.
While some matix are much like dedicated powerstones
(think the "Shara Matrix") the ones I envision with
this ability are much smaller and limited to avoid
unbalancing a game.
The rough idea would be that, should you possess this
ability, you can create a limited mirror of one of
your skills, or if you have access to a gestalt, a
mirror of another psionic skill. The focus
(matrix)must be a high quality crystal (yes, this is
going to be a psionic powerstone...chill out dude!).
The focus can only hold one skill and can only be
charged with the creators FT, AT MOST!!!
example:
Bob the psi-fry menace has empowerment. He
creates a matrix that mirrors his tele-recieve. The
crystal has, at full charge, what Bob's fatigue was
when he created it. If Bob's HT is 10, then he will
never be able to create a matrix that holds more than
10 FT.
Some one who uses this matrix can expend up to
the FT it is charged with (10 max)to use tele-recieve,
or Bob can use the matrix to 'focus' his skill, adding
an additional 10 FT to his total fatigue (matrix is
used up first and must be recharged to gain FT back).
A limit to the matrix would be that if you do not
have any psionic ability the matrix is useless to you
(it will not work). When I get this hammered out more
I will deal with if you use this if it would default
to your own power level, or Bob's if you pick it up
and use it... I am leaning towards Bob's power level
of Empowerment.
Creation would be handled the same as power stones,
but using psionics instead of magery ( I looked at the
rules and you can almost rewite them and just swap out
the words magery/mana/magic for
psionic/FT/power/ability)
While some people will find this to be cheese, or just
a bad idea, ZI am looking for feedback from people who
have read the Darkover novels or understand the ideas
behind them and would ofer creative critisism.
Thanks
MPK
