This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on a website or the like. With a slight delay, old vehicles appear at http://omeyer.gmxhome.de/GURPSnet_files/summary.html Onno Meyer, 2006-01-29
Dragon Republic Type 50 Combat Rescue Shuttle v1.0 (TL9) Copyright 2006 by Onno Meyer The Dragon Republic uses the Type 50 CRS to rescue downed pilots from planets where it lacks surface bases. Deployed directly from orbit, the Type 50 drops either into the oceans (which any habitable planet should have) for a stealthy approach or directly to the position of the downed crew for a quick extraction. The shuttle is shaped like a manta, which has led to the unofficial nickname for the entire class. Many crews have programmed the chameleon hull to sport eyes and a mouth, at least during routine operations. The Type 50 is armed with four 400-kJ point defense lasers, which can switch to blue-green frequencies for underwater fire. With two sets of engines for aerospace and submarine operations, there is no space for any heavy weaponry. The cabin is designed to hold six crew (pilot, copilot, gunner, medic and two rescue swimmers) and four recovered airmen (two stretcher cases and two in seats). Using the cargo bay and the airlock, the shuttle can hold 20 persons for a brief time. Normal operations last less than a day, but the life support provides air for 10 men indefinitely in case the shuttle has to hide on the seabed. At full thrust, the fusion rockets would use 8,000 gallons of water per hour. The tanks last only for 45 minutes. Subassemblies: Body +6.
