This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de Onno Meyer, 2007-09-10
Anachronistic Cargo Helicopter v1.0 (TL6) Copyright 2007 by Onno Meyer In some alternate history stories, one side finds efficient uses for historical technologies. In other novels, genuine time travelers bring modern concepts with them. This large helicopter is reminiscent of the CH-47 or CH-46, using rotary engines instead of turbines. The helicopter has a cargo hold with a rear ramp and folding benches for up to 50 troops. Compact vehicles like jeeps or small armored cars can be carried internally, bulky vehicles like trucks or artillery can be carried as a sling load. The combat radius with an internal payload of 5 tons is almost 200 miles at 100 mph. In an alternate history game, a few hundred cargo helicopters might explain a successful Sealion or help to make Olympic and Coronet different from a replay of Overlord. At routine travel speed, the engines burn 200 gallons of aviation gas per hour. A full load of fuel is $320. Subassemblies: Body +5, eight Small Wheels +1, two Rotors +2. Powertrain: Two 2,000-kW multiple main rotor drivetrains; two 2,000-kW aerial turbocharged HP gas engine; 6,400-kWs lead-acid batteries. Fuel: 800 gallons avgas (fire 14). Occ: 4 RCS, 50 folding CS. The vehicle uses the design rules from GURPS Vehicles [2nd edition, 3rd printing, Dec 2004 errata], WWII (only the aerial engine and cruise speed/fuel consumption rules, not the entire modular system), VXi, VXii (the armor volume and ceiling rules), and the text format from Vehicles Lite. Next Week: A heavy biplane bomber. _______________________________________________ GurpsNet-L mailing list <[email protected]> http://mail.sjgames.com/mailman/listinfo/gurpsnet-l
