They might turn to improvized spacefighters like this one for protection. Based on an orbital workpod, this Microfighter excels at close-range dogfighting. The arms of the pod hold weaponry - a gatling railgun and a missile launcher each - and the navigational radar was replaced by a targeting system. It was impossible to apply stealth without a total rebuild of the hull, so the Microfighter has to rely on a jammer and the background clutter of any base to avoid long-range fire.
