Hmm, a system with hands does have organic recovery capability at the
unit level - maybe you need two or three other mechs to recover the one
that's crippled, but any mechs can do the job, not just the special
engineering models.

(Not disagreeing with your basic points, but trying to play along with
Onno's idea.)
