Personal Flight Pod v1.0 (TL16)

There is a saying that a sufficiently advanced technology resembles
magic, and this is the magic carpet ... a blob of nanometal enclosing
one passenger and the engine/avionics system. The Flight Pod can go
anywhere on a planet, using orbital or suborbital trajectories for
longer distances, and even make interplanetary trips if the passenger
remembers to bring enough sandwiches.
Hey, this reminds me of some sci-fi I recall reading a while back. It
was older stuff. In the story humans carried all sorts of implant
devices that let them fly in space themselves.
They basically had vacuum sealed skin and eyes, internal oxygen storage,
force fields, hyperdrive, advanced communicators and sensors, all built-in.
I suppose that wouldn't be a Vehicles posting exactly but it would be
interesting to stat up at TL16. It should be possible at that TL, and
maybe earlier.
