I'm still tinkering with the patrol boat, but I wondered if it will
answer my original question. The more logical way would be to build a
starship with a fairly high crew-to-size ratio -- a patrol boat will do,
or a scout/exploration vessel, or a courier -- and then increase and
decrease the crew quarters while keeping all other performance the same.
That is, design a ship with double-occupancy cabins for the crew and a
decent sickbay, then swap the cabins for bunks and the operating room
for an automed. Reduce the volume total volume, reduce the engine power,
and so on. Then make it single-occupancy luxury cabins, increase the
total volume, increase the engine power, and so on.
Does that make sense?
