mira amigo aqui te pongo una config, ajustala a tu entidad ya, luego si
no te pinga haces los sgte, 
habre un terminal y pones chmod -R 777 /etc/ejabberd
reinicias la pc y puebas a ver 
has una telnet tu server  jabber  ejmplo.

si te sale esto, estonces tu ejabber esta bien.
