I think the actual use will be different depending on where you are. In our
case
we are still working in several projects with .sid. (gvSIG 1.11, OADE can read
them). Recent aerial photos (2009) are being distributed in some
administrations
(forest) also in .sid format. Tiff and jpeg 2000 are the "official" formats to
supply them, but for some reasons they use only .sid.
