Hello all,
I would like to report briefly our experiences at the Intergeo OSGeo Park.
We were 3 days there in our booth with the technical preview of gvSIG CE and we
met a lot of people who are following gvSIG since the version 1.0.2 appeared.
It was nice to share experiences with SAGA and Marble
(http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Marble/GoMarble/Manifesto) developers.
We were talking with the agit team. They were very happy with the results of
the gvSIG & Sextante User meeting last year
(http://gvsigce.sourceforge.net/joomla/index.php/events/archive) and we will
repeat this event in 2012. The CFP will start with the normal CFP of the AGIT
(from december 2011 to februar 2012), so we will have a lot of time to prepare
papers, presentations and workshops.
D. Schroeder (HFT Stuttgart) and their students are comparing ArcGIS with gvSIG
& Sextante and they will use also gvSIG CE because of the bindings with SAGA
and Grass GIS. That brings a lot of new possibilities for universties and GIS
studies. He offered us the university classrooms in Stuttgart just in case
someone wants to organize an event there (we should think about that).
People were very interested in Sextante with ArcGIS and gvSIG CE.
Our gvSIG CE Brochure was also there. We will need a poster for other
presentations. Maybe someone wants to make it!
I think we could write a small summary of the activities we are doing in 2011
in a document like a "gvSIG CE Report 2011". I will open this point in our wiki.
Maybe we should publish the news with RSS Feed or starting a blog in our
project.
After such an event like the Intergeo a lot of new ideas are coming, ... and
also a lot of work to do.
Our priorities now are:
- Quickstart Guide of gvSIG CE with SAGA and Grass GIS functionalities
- Brochure Sextante
- Testing of gvSIG CE (any of your reports in the user list are welcome)
- Improve the gvSIG CE website
Anyone who wishes to accelerate the work mentioned before is welcome to do it.
We can set up different priorities depending of the people we are.
Best regards!
Jose
