I'm hoping the next firmware release will handle multi-part mp3 books like the victor reader stream. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheryl Lenartiene" <[email protected]>

Hi Suelyman,

It is true that you cannot hear tag info, such as the plot description on
the BookSense. However, you do have a lot more flexibility in terms of
folder structure in both the media player (for playing audiobooks, music,
podcasts, etc.), and in the DAISY folder. As far as I know, the hierarchy is
virtually limitless. For example, by default, the DAISY folder already has
subfolders for NLS books, Bookshare books, and Newsline items. You could
create additional subfolders, as needed. You can even play the entire
contents of a folder by highlighting it with the arrows and pressing Play,
similar to the temporary playlist feature in the Stream except that it
applies everywhere.

Sandy,

Glad it worked for you. Something else interesting to note is that the
VictorReader announces the tag info for Audible books, which includes a full
plot description and summary of the book as written by the publisher. It
looks like based on what is reported by the Booksense that it does not
report this information.

Also, does anyone know if the Booksense will let you create a folder
structure for Audible books? This is something the VictorReader will not
let you do, and it is something I think would be a great feature. For
example, under the Audiobooks folder, let's say that you create an Audible
folder. Then under the Audible folder, you have folders for different
authors. Then inside these folders, you have further folders for each book.
Finally inside each of these folders for books you have the multi-part
Audible files that make up the book...If you do this, does the Booksense let you fully traverse the folder structure? Unfortunately with the Victor, all the files must be placed in the $VRAudible folder, and you cannot assign any
hierarchy to them.

Further to the above question, can one do this with DAISY books as well?
Again, the VictorReader does not observe any folder structure; while it will let you create multiple hierarchies for DAISY books, the interface does not
present them as such; it presents a flat list of books, which can get
annoying if you have hundreds of books. Again, it would be a lot nicer to
be able to traverse the folder structure, so one can have \DAISY, then
\bookshare under that, then a list of authors, then a list of books under
those author folders... Again, does the Booksense let you do this?

I know it will observe folder hierarchies for the music folder, but what
about for Audible and for DAISY books?

Many thanks to everyone for putting up with all my questions!

I am pleasantly surprised. If while playing an Audible book you just
press the zero, the time both elapsed and remaining will be
announced! I am glad I was wrong about that.

Sandy,

Based on what I have seen in podcasts and what Cheryl has said here, the
way
to get the total time for an Audible book is not to press and hold 0 for
two
seconds but to simply hit the 0 key, as in press and release. Can you try
this and see if it reports the total time? I'd love to hear if it works
for
you.

Thanks,

Suleyman

What you get when you are listening to
Audible books, when holding down the zero key for 2 seconds on the
BookSense Standard is: title, then arrowing down: artist, album, and
then narrator. That is all. If someone is getting the time, please
tell me how you are doing it.
