I'd be willing to bet, as the files you say won't "preview" in the Book
Sense are actually WMA files and were not recorded with the Book Sense in
one of its native recording formats, WAV or MP3, that they will not play, as
the intent of the programmers was to allow one to preview those pesky date
named files that tell one nothing about what is recorded in them, that were
actually recorded by the Book Sense itself.
Not a bug, but a programming decision made with no thought in mind that
someone might want to copy recorded notes from another device into the Book
Sense having a non native recording format.
I'm not sure why they didn't allow the function to work with WMA files even
though they may not have been recorded with the Book Sense, but it would be
nice if it would allow it in a future upgrade.

I think I found a problem with the preview when navigating the recording
folder but as I just got back on the list I'm not sure if it has already
been mentioned. Anyway, I was transfering some notes from the DS50 to the
BS. These notes were recorded in the windows media format. They played all
right but the BS wouldn't preview them.
