Downloaded the new firmware yesterday. There are a lot of good
things that have happened; some of which I might never use, but I'm
glad they fixed some things. Play lists aren't that important to me,
nor different types of bookmarks, but that's okay. Also the thing
with the sleep timer is no big deal, because I could always set an
alarm, unless I wanted to actually go to sleep. However, that's good
too. The thing I would really like to see is an improvement on some
of the pronunciation problems (I'm not going to say issues, because
that's too noncommittal, and assumes that they're just things that
people would disagree on. Problems, on the other hand, must actually
be dealt with to be solved.) I would even be okay with some kind of
user-defined dictionary.
They even fixed some of the problems that come up when you convert
files to Daisy format from K1000. However, I still get a strange
"one-fifty-one" for some character. I'm not sure yet what that's
supposed to be. That's okay, I can always convert scanned documents
to other formats, and read them that way. On the whole, I liked the
previous version of the firmware, and I like this version. It's a
much better product than what I had before, although the Bookport had
some neat features too.
Keep tinkering.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
