I suppose my obsessive compulsive nature which such things has always had
me close files before doing maintenance, and I never gave it a thought. It
is just something I do.

Hi! Thanks for the responses. I now know that I'm best off to close the
file I'm reading before switching cards; never had to even think about
that with the stream, which I guess is what threw me off. Not sure if it
matters, but the book I was reading on card 1 was an audible book, and the
book on card 2 which I had to briefly find a quote in was an NLS book. My
point is, I will only rarely even need to do this, but I guess I was just
lucky enough to spot the bug if its safe to call it that.

Hello. Rod's and Ron's observations on why this happens are correct.
When you press play on a book or file and then listen to it, the
BookSense loads it into memory. If you turn off the BookSense and switch
cards, and then turn it on with another card, it looks like it's still
keeping that previously loaded file in memory just like a PC would do.
We made this better in version 2.0, but obviously not enough since this
was discovered. In our experiment, we did something like the following.
1. Press play on an nls book on the SD card.
2. While the book is playing, turn off the BookSense.
3. While the BookSense is off, remove the SD card.
4. Turn on the BookSense. it will immediately switch to the flashdisk.
5. Insert the SD card and resume playing the book after playing it.
If this is done, things work right. I thought we had tested switching sd
cards, but as I said, this could have slipped. My recommendation is to
switch cards while the BookSense is on so the card is read. Also, and
this is just a personal opinion, if you know you will change cards,
perhaps you will want to close the book or file you are listening to.
All that being said, we will work harder to do more crossing of T's and
dotting of I's so this is more fool-proof, I mean, full-proof, *smile*.

Hi, all. I've discovered something slightly humorous about the
booksense, but it's almost certainly a bug of some sort, and depending
on the user, it could actually lead to some confusion.
I have 2 32 gb sd cards: 1 for fantasy and/or childrens books, and the
other for horror, mystery, etc. I am currently listening to some books
on the horror/mystery card, but briefly needed to find a quote from a
book on the fantasy card. I've always thought it was safest to switch
cards with the device turned off. Kind of like safely remove hardware
when I use my card reader in windows for transferring files.
Anyway, I switched cards, and when booksense powered up, it still
thought it was reading "U is for Undertoe," the book on the book from
the card which was no longer present. Likewise, when I switched back to
the card which I was currently reading from and powered back up, it
thought that it was still in the Chronicles of Narnia.
I guess I'm saying all this to ask if I'm supposed to go against all
logic and switch cards while the booksense is powered on, or if in a
future firmware release, a feature can be added where booksense actually
takes a second to scan the card and determine which one it is. I realize
that it may be too much to ask for it to remember where you are on 2
separate cards, but it should at least not tell you that you're in a
book that isn't even on the card that's currently inserted.
I'm not complaining about this per say. In my case, I only have the 2
cards, and its fairly easy to keep them straight, but I think that this
little glitch could lead to massive confusion if people have multiple sd
cards, and I can't imagine it would be that difficult to have Booksense
check the card before announcing what the current file is.
I hope this makes a little sense. If you need me to try to explain it
better, I'll certainly give it a try.
