Hello Prateek,

Actually, we have not found your statement to be true. More often than not,
Bluetooth headsets will work with the BookSense, and they will work very
well. However, the Bluetooth headset should support Bluetooth 2.0, and it
must support the A2DP protocol. Since there is a large number of Bluetooth
headsets available, we can't possibly test and support all of them. We
recognized this issue before we released the BookSense, and during our
launch, we publicly stated that we could not offer support for headsets
other than the Bluetooth headsets we sell. This is because of the large
number of variables in Bluetooth headsets, and most of them are designed to
pair with devices for sighted people, which means you have no audio response
to tell you when you are in or out of pairing mode; thus making it very
difficult to use. So, we tested many headsets, and chose one that we liked
and that we believe is rather easy to pair compared to the other models on
the market. Even with that amount of ease, there are still customers who
have had issues pairing the device because they did not follow the
instructions word for word. We typically find that Bluetooth issues are due
to operator error. Once we let our customers know which headsets we would
support, we still provided the technical specs that a Bluetooth headset must
have before it could work with the BookSense. We have also mentioned these
specs multiple times on this list.

Since you are having so much difficulty with your specific headset, I took
the time to look up the specs on it to make sure it would match what the
BookSense requires, which again, is Bluetooth 2.0 and the support of the
A2DP protocol. You can access the specs for your headset at the following
link on page two of the PDF:
http://www.plantronics.com/media/media_resources/literature/cordless_mobile/
explorer320_en.pdf. Your specific Bluetooth headset does not support
Bluetooth 2.0 or A2DP. According to the aforementioned data sheet from
Plantronics, it supports Bluetooth 1.2, and only the headset and hands-free
profiles (HSP and HFP respectively). These particular protocols were
created mainly for cell phone usage because audio requirements for cell
phones is much less than a more sophisticated audio device like the
BookSense.

With this information, my recommendation would be to either search for a
Bluetooth headset that supports the specs I mentioned. Or, you could call
our Orders Department at (260) 489-3671, and order a Bluetooth headset from
us.

I hope this helps ease your concerns, and informs others that Bluetooth is
being advertised because it does work when used with proper equipment.

Jeremy

Subject: Bluetooth ? RE: [GW-Booksense] BookSense Now Supports RFB&D

With all due respect while I totally dig my XT, are you still seriously
touting bluetooth wifi as a selling feature? this list and my own experience
should have clearly demonstrated to GW that more often than not bluetooth on
the BS wont work or will will work erratically with most headsets.
I have a Plantronics Explorer 320 that works just fine with my other
bluetooth devices all except my XT.Prateek

Subject: [GW-Booksense] BookSense Now Supports RFB&D

GW Micro is proud to announce that the BookSense officially supports
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D). RFB&DAr is the leading
accessible audio book library for students with disabilities such as visual
impairment or dyslexia. BookSense customers can now take advantage of the
large selection of textbooks available from the RFB&D service.

With the addition of support for RFB&D books, students can now instantly
download textbooks from http://www.rfbd.org, and read the books on the
BookSense. Textbooks are available from RFB&D's AudioPlus service, which
has books in DAISY format. Students can choose from any of the 50,000
books, all of which are read by humans, so students get the benefit of an
actual person reading the book.

Adding RFB&D support to the BookSense adds even greater capability to one of
the most advanced eBook readers available to people who are blind or
visually impaired. The BookSense XT is the only eBook reader for the blind
to have built-in Bluetooth for wire-free listening while in the classroom,
as well as built-in memory to make it easier for students to carry textbooks
without the need to worry about memory cards.
Whether you own the BookSense or BookSense XT, both models support RFB&D.
Your player must be authorized to play RFB&D content. This means you must
become an RFB&D member. You can sign up by going to www.rfbd.org, or by
calling RFB&D at 1-800-221-4792. Once you have become a member of RFB&D,
you will need to authorize your BookSense player. To learn how to authorize
your player, go to www.gwmicro.com/kb1114.
