Hello. My suggestion would be to check out the NLS player web page which has many useful tools and information. Remember that this list is for the discussion of the BookSense.

if you want more information about the NLS players, visit the following page for its FAQ:

Many thanks.

Hi all,

I couldn't find this item in the built-in help, so didn't know it was there.
Where are folks picking up these tidbits?

Thanks.

It may not be obvious, but some machines did go out with versions of the
firmware that did not support the bookshelf feature. One can update the
firmware
themselves, though. This might explain why there seem sometimes to be
different versions of answers.

Hi Bob,

Then you understand it incorrectly!

Both the advanced and the Standard player have the Book Shelf with firmware
V2.1.0 and up.

I can definitely attest to this fact as I recieved the Standard player first
and exchanged it for the Advanced model and they would both go into Book
Shelf mode when you hold down the play key for a few seconds.

The firmware is exactly the same for both models.

As I understand it, this bookshelf ability is contained on the advanced NLS
player, not the standard one.

The cable for the nls cartridges is available from
Independent living Aids for about $5 plus shipping.
I got one of these, and it allows you to copy from the pc to the
cartridge.
An interesting thing that I found with the NLS player--although the NLS
cartridges come with the files in the root directory, You can download an
NLS book to a blank cartridge and leave it in its own directory. It
seems that when using the NLS player though, you can only access one such
book per cartridge.

Hi,

I just received two blank cartridges for the NLS player and I've tried
all the cables that went with my BookSense and BrailleSense Plus, an
none of them seem to fit. I understood from the Bardtalk web site that
any cable would work. What cables have any of you used or what adapters
did you use to get the usb cable to work? How did you download books to
the cartridge from the PC?
