Hi Matt, I've only had one issue with it resetting while I was recording, but other than that, it records just fine. I don't have an external mic yet either and also was wondering what would be a good one to get. The internal mic works really good just to record little things, it's very clear and saves well as an MP3 file. For example, I like to record funny things that my 2 year old niece says and does, and the internal mic works perfectly for that.
