From the instructions received with the key file...

"5. Locate the drive which is designated for the BookSense and open it. This can be done from "My Computer" (XP) or "Computer" (Vista). If you have the BookSense XT, you will need to choose the BookSense flashdisk drive instead of the SD card drive."

NLS books should be in their own subfolders under DAISY/NLS.

I say the "flash memory" because that's where the instructions said to put
it -- I think... I followed the instructions... I put the key wherever it
said to put it and restarted my booksense and tried reading an nls book. I don't remember if I copied the key to the flash memory -- which shows up as
a drive labeled "booksense" on my computer -- or if I just put it on my sd
card. whatever the instructions said is what I did.
And the booksense did say I was now able to read nls books. But as I said,
it starts reading the books but after the preliminary stuff it suddenly
blocks me and says I'm not authorized to read it. I'm confused. If I'm not authorized to read the book, shouldn't it block me from reading any part of
it?
I still have the key file that I downloaded from BARD. I could go through
the process again, but I don't think it should be necessary. I have one
other question: Could it be that I put the book in a folder that the
booksense doesn't like? I have the book in x:\audio files\name of book\files
where x is the drive letter for the booksense flash memory.
Thanks a whole bunch for any help!!!

I'm not sure what you mean by the key being on your flash memory. It
shouldn't be there at all. You transfer it to the root directory of
an SD card from the email GW Micro sent you using either cut and
paste, or copy and paste. The easiest way to do this is with a card
reader. After removing the card from the reader, insert it into the
BookSense with the power off. Turn on the BookSense. You should
then hear a message saying the key has been authorized. Remember to
always use the "safely remove hardware" before taking the SD card out
of the reader or before disconnecting the BookSense from your
PC. Some quirky things can happen if you don't.

(I keep a copy of my key in a folder on my PC's hard drive just in
case I might have to reinstall it.)

If I can help you further, please feel free to let me know.

Hi all --
I went through the little protocol with BARD of downloading and installing
the little key file on my booksense flash memory in the root directory,
then
opening an NLS downloaded book to read. All seemed to go well and
everything was playing until this morning.
I decided to read a book and listened to a lengthy table of contents with
no
trouble, but when the booksense reached the beginning of the book it said I
was unauthorized to read it.
So what am I doing wrong?
As I remember, I filled out the info and downloaded the file from BARD,
then
placed this file in the root directory of the flash drive of my booksense,
then opened a book to listen.
That was several months ago.
To be honest, I haven't read an entire audio book from NLS yet. I don't
know if this ever would have worked. When I installed the book, I listened
to the beginning stuff like the preface and table of contents. Is the
player that picky that it will let you listen to the intro but stop you
when
you get to the main body of the book?
I downloaded a large number of books to read when we leave on vacation next
week, so am hoping to get this resolved.
Does anyone have an idea how I can get my NLS books to read?
Thanks in advance!!!

Turn right, then go straight!

        Jeremiah 29:11-14 (Amplified Bible)

11For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the
Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to
give you hope in your final outcome.

12Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me,
and I will hear and heed you.

13Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital
necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.(A)

14I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will release you
from captivity and gather you from all the nations and all the places
to which I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back
to the place from which I caused you to be carried away captive.
