Hi Raul and list,
I changed cursor and trigger delays, and got things to work.
I guess I should have checked them out before posting <sheepish grin>.

I am not having this issue, but I'm also running under Vista. I've
seen on Thunderbird forums that this can sometimes happen with TB. And
those users are not using any screen readers, so I wonder if this is a
TB issue.

Hi all,
I am using Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, running Windows XP home edition, SP3
and all updates.
When in the inbox, I press "enter" to open a message, and WE reads
just fine.
However, I used to be able to press the "delete" key to delete the
current message, and WE would read the next message.
In this version, I get no response when pressing the "delete" key.
The current message stays open, and I have to hit "escape" to exit
the message, then hit "delete" when back in the inbox to erase that
message.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Thanks.
Bob Hill
