the .net component is a software layer that sits between application
software coded and compiled in a .net language and your operating
system. The concept is similar to Java. However, the good news for us
is that GUI designed with .net languages is for the most part
accessible to screen readers.
As a user you will not directly interact with the .net component.
Your .net compiled applications do that for you behind the
scenes. Think of it as a holiday in a foreign country with you as
the software program, the .net component as the fit looking female
interpreter and the oprating system the foreign country.
The idea of .net or Java was to make software development a more
efficient experience. in theory, you should be able to run a single
java or .net compiled application on any platform as long as the
appropriate abstract machine layer, ms .net or java, is installed.
In practice, java is far too slow and, of course, the Java graphical
user interface to us screen reader users far from accessible and .net
development, well, don't get me started on the joys or woes of MS VS 2005
