I figured that I would let you know that you are not alone with
service pack 3 problems. I have a old XP pro machine that won't let
it install either. It downloads without any problems, but it wont
install. After I couldn't get it to install, a friend of mine who is
a computer tech took it to his work. He has service pack 3 on a CD
and he tried to install it from there. He still had no success, So He
erased the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP and then tried to
install service pack 3 before any other programs, it still would not
install. For some reason it just won't go in.

You could try downloading the entire service pack 3 file and installing it
from that file. When I've had trouble with an update, downloading the file
has always worked for me!

Thanks to all of you guys who answered my querie about finding out
whether I had service pack three or not. As it turns out it looks
like I don't. I wonder why it didn't download automatically like the
others did. I also wonder why I can't do it manually. As I said it
installs taking almost an hour until it gets near the end and then
stops and says an error has occured and that I should uninstall
it. Then after it's uninstalled I get a message that everything
could not be removed and it might give me some problems with some
aplications. Oh well, back to the drawintg board. I'll have to see
if I can figure anything out.
