Press f5 for settings, arrow down to alerts and notifications under user interface. Tab to display notifications on desktop and make sure it is unchecked if you want to know about updates. Yes, I said unchecked, which seems a little counterintuitive if you want to know about updates why would you uncheck it? The answer is I don't really know exactly. Maybe someone else has an answer for that one. Presumably if you check this box the update notifications will stop, but if I'm not mistaken it could also block Window-Eyes from announcing more important notifications, like the ones that require your attention.
