Peggy and All,

I upgraded from the site from 7.0 and lost speech as well. Everything seems to
be okay, once I restarted.

If my family uses the computer they just close out WE.

Subject: Got the 7.1 CD

Hi, all. I got my 7.1 CD and the removal tool seems to have fixed things.
I used the quick install, so it loads before startup and I can hear the
logon screen. I personally like that, because I've always just guessed by
the disk noises when I was on the screen, and now I know for sure. But of
course this means it also starts for the two sighted members of my family
who use the 'puter. I told them how to close it, and it won't kill them to
do so. But I'm wondering what would happen if I just unchecked the load
before startup button. Would it still start automatically for me, or would
I break something and have to reinstall. After last week's crash, I'm a bit
gun shy. <grin>

But the really annoying thing was the Wupdate script, or whatever it's
called, that makes a noise when there's a Window-Eyes update. I updated the
GW Toolkit and stuff, and of course this script had to make its little tone
to tell me there was a later version of it. It's that thing that we talked
about on the list a few weeks back, where it said there was an update and
when we tried to update we either lost speech, or we were told that it was
updating to an older version. All you guys said no, not to update, but I
had said yes back then, and I was the one that eventually crashed. I don't
know if the crash had anything to do with that goofy update, but I didn't
want to take any chances, so I uninstalled it. I'd like to install it, if
it can make up its silly mind about what its latest version really is
without taking away my speech; but if not, I'll just try to be alert of
when there are updates. <grin>

Also, that silly script and my attempts to recover speech caused an error
report, but the error reporting program kept not responding, so I eventually
just deleted that error, and now Window-Eyes is happily running, error free.
Is there a problem with the error reporting?

Peggy <happy to have 7.1, but afraid of doing something that will cause it
to break again>
