And, one more thing, in the demo I heard, Kate's voice was a smidgeon
lower than default. Window-Eyes' default for the Kate voice is
exactly correct, but not the book sense.
I guess some people just don't hear as well as they should,
particularly those who adjusted that parameter. On the other hand, we
should have the adjustment for pitch with that voice so corrections
can be made for taste, let alone the default. :)
Window-Eyes pitch 3 for that voice is the default pitch, which
matches the person who made the recordings for Kate exactly.
That isn't a criticism, just an observation. It took me years to show
Stephen Baum that the default pitch for the "Kate" voice in Kurzweil
1000 at pitch 11 was too high and pitch 10 was too low. He finally
got it, :) Any fatigue factors which arise from hearing a voice too
high or too low, particularly of a recorded voice, such as Kate is,
should be avoided at all costs since when books of more than a few
dozen pages are read, listening to any given voice with a stress
factor of higher than zero, though relatively subconscious results in
fatigue. :)
Remember back in the long ago days when theater proprietors would
flash pictures of popcorn on the screen in subliminal speeds, your
eyes would see it and you wouldn't except then, you'd get hungry and
didn't know why? :) It's like that, things like that should be
avoided at all cost.
I think developers would be surprised what Johnny Q Public can
realize if given the data. :)

HI all members of the GW-Info group. My name is Louis and I am
currently a freshman in California. Recently I've discovered the
products of GWMicro and I must say I am impressed. I am currently
using a Braille Note and am in the process of transitioning from Jaws
to Window Eyes. I was just wondering about your experiences with
Window eyes and the Braille sense. How do they compare to other
products out there and your experiences with them? I am very excited
about the Book Sense. I think that that the Book Sense is already a
great product but it would be greater if it supported other voices
such as the Elequence voices, WMA protected books and other file types
such as ipod formats, and a search word feature in the Daisy mode.
Would you guys agree? Can't wait to read your opinions.
