After right clicking on the icon and disabling all add ons, IE8 loaded
much faster. A site I use frequently loaded not only quicker but
without the necessity to refresh or redraw the screen in order to gain
access to the links. In other words, the page had focus immediately.
Whether this would happen every time only time will tell.
Now the problem is to decide which add ons etc to disable under Tools
Add Ons to make the improvement permanent.
Cheers
Neville.

Just wanted to suggest, that you do one of the following, in IE8. Don't
know, if this will affect the problems described in this thread. I can
confirm much of the previous mentioned behavior, and just realized these
options. Have to try it out, to see if it has any impact, or maybe some
of you already have been there, and could tell if it does affect the
behavior or not.
1. Goto your desktop (Win-D), and find the Internet Explorer icon. Bring
your mouse onto the icon (INS-NumPad+), and right-click (Numpad*). In
the drop-down menu, choose 'start without add-ons'. When IE opens, you
should be running a CLEAN IE, without any activeX controls, toolbars,
accelerators etc. Try to see if this solves your problems. If you decide
it does, move on to the next step. Just keep in mind, if you close, and
reopen IE, the normal way, it will open with all your ADD-ONs turned on,
so for the next few sessions, follow this step 1.
2. In IE8, go to the Tools menu, and then choose Manage Add-Ons. In the
dialog box opening, go through the different cattegories, and disable
the add-ons you don't think should be there, or you don't have any use
for. When finished choose CLOSE, then close and reopen IE8 (the normal
way). It will now be running only the add-ons that you decided to leave
enabled.
Microsoft has a short help notice in the screen you will find, when
following step 1. It says, that Add-ons might cause your browsing
experience to change, and even malfunction. This is why, I got the idea,
that it could be, this might help somehow on the problems, formerly
discussed in this thread. Also, when I scrooled down the list of
add-ons, I found that certain add-ons - like Windows Messenger - was
told to be 'not available', and still Enabled. I simply disabled such
ones, not knowing, if they might be fractions of old stuff, that could
be causing trouble; time will show. I am running Windows Live, hence the
old Windows Messenger, is of no use to me...
If anyone of you, either already have tried this out, or want to try it,
and can come back, please, with some feedback as to whether this makes
IE more stabil, I am sure most of us, would appriciate this.

Do you happen to have a 7.01 installation disk? I don't, and so would
have
to install 7.0, which crashes quite a lot under vista, and then apply the
7.01 upgrade patch. is that what you did, or did you accidentally
downgrade
yourself to 7.0?
thanks.

Just to see what would happen I just did a uninstall and reinstall of
Window
Eyes on my XP system and needing to redraw the screen with IE 8 seems
to be
much better. Could be a quirk but is easy enough to try.

I did try running with scripting disabled, and it did not help
unfortunately.
yes, I know some are running just fine with IE 8; it's very
frustrating, but I also know that both MS and GW are working on it.

I upgraded to ie8 because it is faster than ie7 and if it does crash,
it doesn't lock up windows. I still prefer ie8 to firefox 3, but
that's probably just a matter of old habits on my part.
