Hi Rebecca, I missed the first part of your conversation which lead to this message; however, I wanted you to know of my own experience.
About a year ago I started experimenting with window eyes, even though I owned the latest version of jaws, with 2 SMAs left. I tried to switch back and forth, as I needed to get my work done, and I knew how to do that in jaws. I just couldn't keep all the keystrokes in my head that way, and so I tried the jaws keyboard layout. Then, I found I was missing out on all the capabilities that window eyes had which jaws did not, and any time I asked for help, the answer usually came back with window eyes keystrokes mixed in, which of course I couldn't use. I wasn't making any real progress in learning window eyes until I decided to install it on both my pcs, and set it as the default screen reader, and went back to the native keyboard layout. I forced myself to if not learn everything, then at least to learn what I needed to do my work of the moment, and to learn how the manual was laid out so that I could easily look things up. I also made myself understand what a hot key was, and what a cursor key was, and then it becomes quite simple to look up the correct keystroke using the window eyes menus, which group the key commands by type of function. I find this is *much* easier in window eyes than in jaws. I hope this response fits the conversation you were having; it seemed like no time until I felt quite at home with window eyes this way.
