I've tried several options over the past few years being a serious news
junkie. IE is a passable RSS reader but unless they improved it with
version 8 I don't particularly recommend it. It's very basic. It doesn't
even render the post date on the feed articles according to your local
time.
Again maybe v8 is better. I don't use IE anymore. I also tried several
Outlook RSS plugins. I noticed in the message header you're not using
2007.) Intrav News was the best of the bunch but its latest version
caused
pages not to be read correctly in Outlook even when reading messages it
didn't create. For obvious reasons there probably won't be any more work
done on it. I was using Sage 2 for Firefox, but it to is no longer being
worked on and isn't compatible with the latest version of the browser.
The
bookmark feature of Firefox will work, but it's a clunky way to get at
feeds. It requires too many steps.
The best solution I have at the moment is a web based reader called
Bloglines (http://www.bloglines.com.) with Its reasonably accessible and
you can move from feed to feed with a hotkey. (Note in browse mode you
need
to hit the bypass hotkey first.) The main concern with Bloglines at least
the last time I checked was that the beta they are working on isn't as
accessible as their current interface. It has been some time since I
tried
the beta, so maybe they've improved this. I did send them feedback.
They've been working on that beta for what seems like years, but
eventually
they're bound to replace the current interface with it. They also seem to
have a high rate of technical glitches. Still, they provide the ability
to
import and export OPML files, so it's worth setting up and using until you
have to find another solution. I'm in the process of updating my feeds
now
to incorporate the changes since I last used the service.
