Hi Doreen,
On my Dell PC at home there is no serial port and I too wanted to continue to use my Dectalk Express. I did ask this list for opinions at that time. A quick google found me a USB to serial cable. This comes with a driver which needs to be installed. It is then a case of selecting the USB port for the Dectalk Express in the Synthesiser options of the Window-Eyes Control panel. You will notice that, if you use the "load before start-up" option for Window-Eyes, that the speech comes from the PC speakers until the driver etc is all in place, then speech will go to the Dectalk Express. I would get a hub or connector thatwould convert the 9 pin female end to a USB port so I could use it again. I have a desktop model that doesn't allow for expansion because it is very compact so I have to expand externally where I can.
