Don't know, about SoundForge, as I'd never been using it. I have, on the other hand, been using GoldWave, for several years, even before starting out with WE. It is a great program, and works fine with WE. As to the filtering, GoldWave, lets you even remove noice of your own choice. If you can but grap a few seconds (even just one second) of the noice, you can simply compare the noice with your sound file, and the sound file will be ripped for that noice. Say, for instance, you have a recording of an old audio tape, with a ton of huyss in the background. Grab a second or so of that hyssing noice, and make a comparison in Goldwave, and you will end up with your whole recording, ripped of the noice. Have been using this technique quite a lot, to clean up my recordings of audio tapes, and vinyls. It works wonderfully, and is one of the main reasons, why I did choose GoldWave, way back in time.

GoldWave has a big selection of Audio formats, that is supported. Not sure, if your old SoundForge files will be there, but others might know. Does SoundForge have a special way of storing its files, i.e a special sound format? You can always download a trial version of GoldWave, and give it a try, and see if it works.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. Does Studio Recorder work as well as
Sound Forge? How about Gold Wave? I'm glad they are committed to helping the
blind, but have they really done anything helpful yet? Someone said the
filtering isn't as good as Sound Forge. I don't mind paying a higher price, I just want a program that works well and is easy for a blind person to use.
Also, I already have some books recorded on Sound Forge. Could they be
moved to another program to be cleaned up?

Paulette

The later versions of Sound Forge don't work as well as earlier versions
with Window Eyes.

If you don't mind, I would make some other suggestions instead of Sound
Forge. I like Studio Recorder from APH. I also know that the company that makes Goldwave has made a committment to make their product accessible with
screen readers. Goldwave is also considerably less expensive and offers
free lifetime updates the way I understand it.

Hi all,

I am interested in purchasing Sound Forge for putting old talking books,
especially a few that I have that are no longer available in the NLS
program, into a digital format. Does anyone know if Sound Forge works well
with Window Eyes, and if so, how I can get the keyboard rather than mouse
ways to use it? Also, is there any other digital recording program that
works well for the blind that is used with Window keys? Thanks.

Paulette
