man this should be added to the script help documentation.  we see and answer 
this question so often. 
first open the skype main window.  now open the tools menu buy pressing alt+t.  
now open the option dialog.  now tab to a radio button that says skype. press 
the arrow key tell it says classic windows.  now tab to the save button.  press 
space bar.  your menu bar should now read.

    Hi all,

         If anyone is adventurous, try the Skype beta.  It works well with the 
present scripts but doesn't read at all with the other major screen reader or 
NVDA.

         The only problems I found so far is with searching for a new contact 
if there is more then 1 name in the list you need your mouse keys to read the 
names in te list.  They have a button below the contact list that is the 
notifications button and below that is a list box of alerts such as people 
trying to add you to there contact list.
