To be honest, I never use that search edit box. If I want to search for messages I bypass then press control-shift-f and use the more advanced but more powerful search capabilities of Thunderbird. Maybe you can give this a try. It totally rocks.

Good day all,

When I started Thunderbird this morning it asked if I wanted it to run
an update. Foolish me, I let it proceed. Following the update, I am no
longer able to change the type of the search box with the arrow keys.
It is on "search all messages," and thus far, I have not figured out a
way to cycle it through the different options. I am not sure if the
behavior of the box has changed, or if they did something that resulted
in discord with Window-Eyes. Any one else experiencing this?
