CRC stands for cyclic redundancy check.  It is a checksum, derived from
counting the bits which represent the colors and positions of the pixels of
the graphic.  If an icon is of a different color, doesn't have its center
filled in, is filled with a different pattern, etc., its CRC number will be
different from that of another icon.  In Window-Eyes' graphic dictionary,
the full CRC is a number which can have a value from zero to 4 billion or
so.  I think you hear this number if you press Insert-8 three times in a
row.  If you press Insert-8 only twice, you hear the three-digit shortened
CRC value, which is unique enough for most purposes and much easier to
remember than the full CRC.
